Traditionally rakhi puja thali contains all the essential items which are required while worshiping god. It must contain rakhi, roli, diya and sweets. You can keep banana leaves also on the ordinary thali and can arrange your puja items on it.

Decorative ideas
1. Mix sandalwood with water and swab it on the entire thali. After when it got dried, draw the auspicious swastika with the help of kumkum in the middle of thali. It is the symbol of lord ganesha.
2. Decorate the fringes of puja thali with red and yellow lace or paper. But make sure it does not come under the influence of incense sticks or diya.
3. Roli can be applied on thali by mixing it with turmeric. Add little drops of water. Such red and yellow combination will give traditional view to the thali.
4. Give your thali a flowery look by decorating with fresh and colorful flowers. Use petals for either decorating entire thali or it can be placed on boundary of it.
