Rakhi celebrations in Kolkata are a little different from northern India. Rakhi is a festival, which is originally a tradition of northern India. Raksha Bandhan is a day when a sister ties rakhi thread on the wrist of his brother and wishes for his well being and prosperity.

In Kolkata this tradition is popularly celebrated as bhai dhooj. This festival is similar to raksha bandhan. Due to cultural differences some traditions are celebrated differently in different parts of the country.Although rakhi is not the major festival of Kolkata still like the other parts of India this day is celebrated with joy and happiness. People in West Bengal also tie the rakhi thread around the wrist of her brother.
